| BOHAG - in public service for over 35 years. |
Helicopter transport in the mountains and terrain with difficult access is the daily job of the men from BOHAG Berner Oberländer Helikopter AG in Gsteigwiler and Zweisimmen.
No other means of transport could now replace the helicopter in the Alps. As one of Switzerland’s most experienced helicopter companies, BOHAG has flown a wide range of missions in the Bernese Oberland for over 35 years. The REGA Base 10 (Swiss Rescue Helicopter Service) is also located at the Gsteigwiler heliport, the REGA Base 14 at Zweisimmen. |

| Why are helicopters needed? |
| It would now be hard to imagine doing without civil helicopters for transport of materials and passenger flights. The Swiss Alpine valleys and mountains are popular holiday destinations, famous throughout the world. But this diversity of landscape is not without its problems. Valleys and alps need to be accessible to make possible care and cultivation, but not everywhere is suitable for building roads. |
|
| All kinds of transport and material flights |
BOHAG flies all kinds of building material such as concrete, sand and gravel directly from lorry to shuttering. Construction timber, metal structures and compressors etc. are also flown to remote or difficult-to-access building sites.
The often very tight construction times for replacement or building of mountain rail & cableway installations can be kept on schedule thanks to the use of helicopters as a modern means of transport. The helicopter leaves no trace in nature sanctuaries and moorland and so helps to protect and preserve the environment. We fly all kinds of building material such as concrete, sand and gravel directly from lorry to shuttering, always using the nearest and most cost-effective loading point. We also fly construction timber, metal structures, compressors and water (in temporary containers e.g. tipping trough) for on-site production of concrete in bad weather. |
|
| Assembly flights |
| BOHAG is an expert and reliable partner when the task requires millimeter-exact placing of elements which must immediately be anchored or bolted down. A wide range of structures, ski-lift elements, lamp masts, telecommunication installations, emergency roofing and silos are only some of the many jobs which can be carried out quickly, safely and cost-effectively by helicopter. |
|
| Supply flights to SAC and other huts |
| SAC huts are now supplied exclusively by helicopter. Provisions and other materials can be transported to the most remote corners of the magnificent mountain world in only a few minutes. On the return flight, BOHAG carries waste material to be suitably disposed of in the valley. |
|
| Firefighting missions |
| Our crews can be reached directly at all times from Monday to Saturday: at night and on public holidays via the REGA (Swiss Air Rescue Service) emergency number Tel. 144. One Lama SA 315 B and three Ecureuil AS 350 B3 are available, each with a lifting capacity of up to 800 litres of water per flight. Various containers e.g. tipping bucket, Chadwick or Bamby bucket can be used according to the seat of the fire. |
|
| Logging |
| Timber must be transported from the remote regions of a forest for it to retain its protective function and remain a supplier of raw material and a recreational area. Here the helicopter again provides a fast, safe and cost-effective means of assistance. |
|
| Avalanche blasting |
| It’s often said that a helicopter is too expensive to use for avalanche-blasting. However, if reopening a ski region after a heavy snowfall is delayed by more than one hour, the economic cost clearly speaks for the use of a helicopter. |
|
| Recovery of injured, sick or dead cattle |
| (contadino missions) |
| Animal owners who are REGA family sponsors receive free aerial assistance if one of their cattle is injured, sick or dead. As a rule, this type of mission is flown by a private helicopter company such as BOHAG on behalf of REGA. |
|
| Rescue missions on behalf of REGA |
| In the winter months we carry out rescue missions from the Zweisimmen heliport (REGA 14) on behalf of REGA. |
