Climate change is a huge challenge for humankind. We are all called upon to find sustainable solutions. The aviation industry too has a responsibility to reduce its emissions or to compensate for them. In 2021, the Swiss Helicopter Group, the parent company of Swiss Helicopter AG, included the topic of sustainability in its corporate strategy. Based on this, Swiss Helicopter AG developed its sustainability strategy, which addresses the issue holistically and across all its areas of activity. The clear focus is on flight operations. In this way, Swiss Helicopter AG is also responding to a steadily growing customer need.
All passenger flights are CO2 compensated
We are convinced that a sustainable strategy only makes sense if it is also implemented in a consistent and targeted manner. For this reason, we have decided that Swiss Helicopter Ltd should play a pioneering role in the aviation industry when it comes to sustainability. Our promise: From January 2023, every private flight you book with us will be CO2 compensated! With this, Swiss Helicopter AG is doing pioneering work in Switzerland.

All training flights CO2-compensated
On 1 April 2025, Swiss Helicopter AG extended this environmentally friendly approach to all of the flight school's training flights. This means that all training flights by future and already licensed pilots will also be carried out in a CO2-compensated manner. Charter flights by private pilots are now also CO2-compensated as a result of this step.

All flights can be CO2 compensated
Would you like to offset the CO2 emissions of your material transport or your flight training? Or would you like to convert the flight voucher you received before January 1, 2023 into a CO2 compensated flight experience? This is possible with our compensation calculator.
We want to further expand our sustainability strategy and offer completely CO2-neutral flight operations in the future. Ask us, we will advise you.

Reduction and compensation
In order to make flight operations climate-neutral in future, our sustainability strategy is based on two pillars. Firstly, wherever possible, CO2 should not be emitted in the first place. Emissions can be reduced, for example, through the use of so-called Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF). SAF is produced from biological raw materials or synthetically. As there is currently huge demand for these fuels from airlines, but production volumes are still low and prices are high, SAFs are currently only available in limited quantities. In addition, due to the current legal situation and the certification of our engines, we are currently only allowed to add a maximum of 50% SAFs.
This means that the CO2 emissions of helicopter flight operations cannot yet be completely avoided. That is why we are removing the CO2 emitted from the atmosphere with the second pillar of our strategy.
To this end, Swiss Helicopter AG is working together with its partner company Carbonfuture. This promising innovative start-up is active in the field of CO2 recovery from the air (carbon removal) using biochar. In brief: plants bind the CO2 from the air and are then carbonised in a plant without oxygen supply, for example the branch material from the forest. The resulting biochar binds the CO2 from the atmosphere in a stable, long-term and reliable way. The biochar can even be used as a fertiliser or additive for the construction sector.
